Belinda O’Hooley has a wretched claim to fame that has left her both outwardly embarrassed and secretly proud. In 2001, she won ‘Stars In Their Eyes’ as Eurythmics diva Annie Lennox. Then Belinda’s mother died. This marks a significant turning point in Belinda’s life and career. She bought a piano and began to write. The result is her acclaimed debut album ‘Music Is My Silence’. Her startlingly original, deeply moving stories combine haunting lyrics with rich piano soundscapes. An accomplished musician in both folk and jazz, Belinda draws from these and other influences to create music described as ‘gloriously commanding‘. Music Is My Silence is a collection of intimate and atmospheric stories featuring Belinda on piano and vocals. Her songs explore themes including Belinda’s sexuality, her Irish past, losing someone and the relationship between music and mood. Belinda spent last year lending her song writing and session musician skills to other artists and gigging around the UK and Ireland. Dates include RubySessions and Solo Festival, Ireland; Festivals in Manchester, Brighton, Leicester, Nottingham and Stockholm and a homecoming gig at the Roadhouse, Manchester. Belinda will be performing nationwide in June as part of the GirlsWorld Tour which promotes the best up and coming female singer songwriters on the contemporary acoustic music scene.
