Black Pride: Gay African-American travel sizzles PDF Print E-mail

ImageAfrican-American gays and lesbians aren't always visible in traditional gay destinations. In fact, on any given summer day, black gay presence barely registers at gay resorts like Fire Island, Provincetown or Palm Springs. Times are changing though, with events for African-American gay men and lesbians growing in popularity. The most prominent of these are big Pride events in urban areas boasting a large concentration of black lesbians and gay men.

Charting the Caribbean: Which islands are gay-friendly, which aren't? PDF Print E-mail
Grand Canary. Key West. Ibiza. Oahu. Phuket. While a chain of gay-friendly island destinations encircles the globe, there has traditionally been one missing link -- any Caribbean isle. That is, until now. Despite a well-deserved reputation for entrenched homophobia, frequent discrimination against gay citizens, and even open hostility to gay and lesbian travelers, there are signs that at least a handful of Caribbean destinations -- favorite subtropical stomping grounds for spring-breakers, straight couples and "traditional" families -- are changing their tunes.

Mr Thomas’s Chop House PDF Print E-mail
Mr Thomas’s Chop House, believed to be the eldest of the two Victorian Chop House Company ‘sons,’ is both a firm Mancunian regulars’ haunt and somewhat of a destination pint for those thumbing a city guide and looking for something a bit special. And it is. From the outside, a quaint Victorian townhouse, slightly unsure of its footing, leaning against its neighbours with unsteady legs.

Gay Dominican Republic: New Surprises and Old Fears PDF Print E-mail
Heading to the Caribbean? Then look no further than the Dominican Republic.

Intro: Only a couple of days in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest city in the Americas, are needed to see the lively gay venues and the lesbigay spirit that is here. The trendy music places that beat late innto the night are, however, only the louder tip of a more subdued community of health educators, closeted intellectuals and quiet gay businessmen who all live in a conservative political milieu that inhibits most LGBT people from being more active as advocates. And it doesn't help that the local Catholic Cardinal has some oppressively medieval ideas about gays. But there is vital gay energy here despite the opposition.

Land of the body beautiful.............Brazil PDF Print E-mail

They don't seem to sleep much in Rio - perhaps it's the coffee. They get up early, party late and seem to spend most of their time in the open air, on the 56 miles of beach. There is a tangible sensuality rather than an overt sexuality about the city and the people, it's probably the heat, but it would be safer to say it's just part of their culture. The amount of gorgeous bodies on show (both men and women), and the fact everyone dances so well, (and not just during carnival). There are more than 40 samba schools in Rio, but only 14 of the best get to perform as the city's premier ones during the carnival parades.
