Outlet’s
Top ‘Must-Haves’ for Flat
Hunting
Flat
hunting can be hard work, as you
want to make sure you find the
right place to live. Here are a
few must-haves to make the
process easier:
- A
plan – know when you’re
going to be looking, and set
aside a day or an afternoon to
see as many of the properties
you’re interested in as
possible.
- A
checklist – know what
you’re looking for. What is
important to you in a new
home? A power shower?
Somewhere to leave a bike? A
washing machine? Knowing what
you’re looking for will make
it easier to make a decision
about the right place for
you.
- A
pen and paper – useful for
jotting down phone numbers,
addresses and queries as you
travel between viewings.
- A
list of questions to ask
prospective landlords. Can my
boyfriend come round
occasionally? Can I smoke in
the flat? How are the bills
paid? Don’t forget to ask
these sorts of questions now,
otherwise you may not like the
answer later when it’s too
late to back out.
- An
A-Z of the town you are
looking in – you need to be
able to find the houses
you’re meant to be looking
at!
- A
stout pair of shoes. If
you’re going to be pounding
pavements getting from one
appointment to another, you
don’t want to be wearing
those Manolos, now do you?
- A
Travelcard or bus pass.
Essential unless you can
afford to pay a fortune for
each journey you have to make.
- A
Mars Bar and a bottle of
water. You need to keep those
energy levels up!
- A
sense of humour – looking
for somewhere new to live,
especially if you need to move
urgently, can be stressful.
Try to keep it all in
perspective and remember that
there is somewhere perfect for
you out there somewhere!
