Stockholm
Stockholm's queer scene is open and happening, with beautiful dykes and the gorgeous men of Swedish porn fame holding court. Unfortunately, the hot spots can be a bit tricky to pin down; though a few shops and cafes have clustered on Hornsgatan, in Södermalm, and Sveavägan, in Vasastaden, there are no real gay neighborhoods, and places open and close quicker than even the locals can keep up with. Upon arrival in town, your first stop should be Rosa Rummet (Sveavägen 57; tel. 08/736-02-15; T-Bana to Rådmansgatan; Noon-8pm Mon-Thur, noon-6pm Fri, 1pm-4pm Sat, Sun; www.rfsl.se/rosarummet; V, MC), a gay and lesbian bookstore where you can find queer mags, books, videos, and music. Pick up a free copy of the annual Gaymap, which lists hot clubs, bars, restaurants, clothing and piercing shops, etc., or check them out online at www.gaymap.com. If you get the map shortly before July 1, when the new edition is published, the bookstore's clerk can also cross out the roughly 50 percent of the places that no longer exist. Sodermalm is a nice neighborhood with many rainbow flags, bars and pubs. But if you really want to taste the gay life in Sweden, your best bet is to head over to ..............
