Race and Homosexuality: A Clash of Equalities?

Black History Month's primary focus is on acknowledging the achievements of the black community, as well as providing an opportunity to acknowledge the historical legacy of the slave trade and colonialism across the world.

Last year, Leeds University Union celebrated Black History Month by hosting a range of events to commemorate the 200 year abolition of the slave trade. This year Black History Month looks set to be even more exciting as a joint initiative between Leeds University Union and the University’s Equality Service.

We’ve got a month packed with events organised by LUU societies which include speakers, film-showings, gigs, exhibitions and theatre which relate to current political issues of racial and cultural oppression and discrimination. Everyone is invited to organise their own event for Black History Month and to participate in all of the activities taking place.

EVENTS. See the full list of events below.

Race and homosexuality: A clash of equalities?

Speakers include Linda Bellos, equalities campaigner, Andrew Prince from Outburst UK & UK Black Out, Ajamu from rukus Federation!, Simon Nelson, health campaigner, and Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrats MP for Southwark North & Bermondsey.
