The Human Rights Act - From October 2, 2000, the Human Rights Act comes into full effect. It safeguards 16 basic rights, like the right to liberty, freedom of expression and respect for private and family life. But if your rights are ever infringed, it's good to know that there's something you can do about it. If you would like to know more about the Human Rights Act, you can visit the Home Office human rights unit.
