It remains extremely important that gay couples write Wills to protect the surviving partner. The
surviving partner of a gay relationship frequently suffers badly where there is no will. LEAVE A WILL - NOT DOUBT AND WORRY!London Partnership Register Message from Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London. The Greater London Authority is the first public body in Britain to have equalities written into its constitution. This puts us in the unique position of being able to be active in dealing with the inequalities that exist for those people that make London the diverse place that it is. London is a world city with one of the largest lesbian and gay communities and I believe that London should help lead the way in tackling such inequalities as the failure of the law to recognise the partnership status of lesbians and gay men. In Britain it remains perfectly legal to discriminate against lesbians and gay men. You can be sacked as a result of homophobic prejudice, discriminated against in terms of partnership rights, pensions or housing. A same-sex partner of 30 years can find themselves refused recognition as 'next of kin' - in these situations what recourse do you have? During the election for Mayor of London I gave a commitment that I would establish a partnerships register for London and I have now done so. I hope other cities will follow suit and that other organisations will accept it as proof of a relationship. There is a long way to go but I am proud that Londoners are playing their part. ![]() Please note that you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print PDF documents.
