19 Dec 05 African or Caribbean Gay men and their mothers needed.
GMFA are compiling a story for Mother’s Day 2006, about the problems Black gay men experience when their mothers find it difficult to accept their sexuality, in particular how it impacts on their health and their tendancy to take risks.

THIS STORY WILL BE PICKED UP BY VARIOUS PRINT, RADIO AND TELEVISION MEDIA.

They are looking for stories of relationships between Black gay men and their mothers, around which they can build case studies.   They are looking for:

  • Black mothers who did not accept their son’s sexuality at first, but who now do accept it and have rebuilt or are rebuilding their relationship;
  • Black gay men who were accepted by their mother but not fully supported, and so pushed for more support and made things better;
  • Black gay men who have been rejected by their own mothers, but embraced and ‘adopted’ by their boyfriend’s mother;
  • Black gay men who have been rejected by their mothers but found organisations or people who have supported them.
